“Everyone in the world of wine has a story to tell. The motivation is often the same, but the experience is always very personal. The wines I make tell my story and are a reflection of all the lessons I have learnt along the way.”
Always an inquisitive and enthusiastic drinker, Sierra’s journey is different to most, rather than studying she is mentor lead: Paso Robles (Hearst Ranch Winery), the Yarra Valley (Domain Chandon), the Napa Valley (Piña), the Barossa Valley (Head Wines), Mornington Peninsula (Kooyong), Central Otago (Rippon), Beaujolais, France (Domain du Vissoux), the Grampians (Mount Langi Ghiran), the Napa Valley (Hunnicutt Winery), Barolo, Italy (E. Pira & Figli – Chiara Boschis) Geelong (Lethbridge Wines), and Rheingau, Germany (Robert Weil).
The journey has left a series of lasting lessons, provided many inspirations and also created lifelong friendships. It has also led to Sierra making her first wines in February, 2015. Sierra hope’s you seek out her wines and that they bring you as much joy in the drinking as they have in the making.
These are transcendent and beguiling wines, packed full of personality and nuance. Site selection is critical for Sierra as she aims to showcase what she best loves about her favourite varieties, letting the vineyards speak for themselves and intervening only with sparing use of sulphur. Bottled purity.
Reed Wines “Alexia” Grenache, Vine Vale, Barossa Valley 2022 LUC / 27.50
150 year old certified BD bush vines grown in sand by Wayne Ahrens. One month on skins and a year on old oak. Painting with water colours here rather than oils. One of the best wines in our portfolio.
– Reed Wines “My Way” Dolchetto, Macedon Ranges, VIC 2022 LUC / 27.50
Having spent time with Chiria Boschis in Barolo, Sierra know her way around a bottle of Dolchetto. This the very first vintage from Mountain Franklin Vineyard in Macedon. 50% whole-bunch, 1 month on skins, large format old stockinger oak for 12 months. Soft and bright with punchy tannins.
– Reed Wines “Knife Edge” Shiraz Grampians, VIC 2022 LUC / 22
The 8th vintage working from the Great Western Vineyard on blue slate and clay. 1/3 whole bunch, holds it very well, meaty and savoury with a relativity light frame with satisfying tannin.
– Reed Wines “Knife Edge – Reserve” Shiraz, VOC 2021 LUC / 38
First release of this wine and an absolute standout. From the same vineyard as the “Knife Edge” with 100% whole bunch and new oak. Extra lift, punch & depth in a lithe framework. Super impressive.
