Franck Massard is the founder and owner of Epicure Wines and was awarded the Taittinger Best UK sommelier in 1996. His dedication to the wine world led him to start his own wine company in order to share his passion for great wine. His winegrower career began in 2004 when Franck Massard and an old friend of his decided to acquire their own vineyard in Spain’s Priorat region and transform their dream into reality. As sommeliers, they wanted to learn more about production. Their first harvest was just 500 bottles, and quickly they found out that developing fine wines requires skill, patience and hard work but they were delighted with this first wine.
Visiting wine regions across Spain, Franck discovered extraordinary unknown vineyards and met farmers with an amazing sense of nature, which saw a new passion grow inside of him, and he started to create new wines from lesser known regions like Ribeira Sacra, Terra Alta, and Valdeorras, wines with a real sense of place. He then started seeking out vineyards in marginal climates where the vines ripen slowly and have a natural complexity, and century-old vineyards, almost abandoned because their yields are so low, where the fruit quality is astonishing.
